Guatemala's history dates back four thousand years, when the Mayan civilization emerged, whose legacy lives on today with the traditions and culture of its people. Guatemala is a country of extraordinary cultural and natural wealth and with a privileged geographical location.
But not everything is a paradise. Concerning the distribution of wealth, it is one of the most uneven countries. Poverty persists regardless of the territory it is, especially in the Native American communities, which constitutes 80% of the population of this country.
At CMI our focus is urban and rural areas, where the needs of our families vary widely. Our Native families suffer from extreme poverty. These families lack the most basic services, such as health care, schools, and job opportunities.
